Migration & Transition

Can classic and next-gen SAP Ariba run in parallel?

Short answer

Yes. SAP has said customers can run current and next-gen SAP Ariba environments in parallel during the transition. This allows a phased move – for example by process, region or business unit – instead of a single big-bang cut-over.

Phased approaches that work

  • By process: move intake and buying first, then sourcing and contracts.
  • By region or entity: start with one country or business unit as a pilot.
  • By new activity: start new events and contracts in next-gen while legacy ones finish in classic.

Watch out for

  • Users confused about which system to use – communicate clearly.
  • Duplicate integrations and master data sync.
  • Reporting that spans both environments.
  • Letting parallel running drag on – set a clear end date.
