What happens to our customisations and approval flows in next-gen SAP Ariba?
Short answer
Customisations and approval flows need to be reviewed and, in many cases, rebuilt in the new platform. Treat the move as a chance to simplify: keep what adds business value, replace workarounds with standard features, and build true extensions on SAP BTP.
Review every customisation
For each custom field, approval rule, form or report, ask:
- Is it still used?
- Does a standard next-gen feature now cover it?
- If it is truly unique, can it be built as a BTP extension?
Simplify approval flows
Classic tenants often accumulate complex approval chains. Use thresholds, roles and intake routing to reduce steps – faster approvals are one of the easiest wins.
Why clean core matters
The closer you stay to standard, the easier it is to adopt new SAP releases and AI agents without rework.
